Narrative:
Departed airport VFR. While climbing out I asked captain what the ceiling was. He said it was 800'. I told him that we were in a control zone and were in violation of far's. We picked up clearance from ZTL and they asked us what the ceiling was. I will now check the WX myself before every flight.
