Narrative:
Flying in peck/franklin MOA on USAF air interceptor threat simulation mission as a military contractor. Airspace expired at XA30L (XA30Z). Prior to the expiration time, ZOB was contacted on 133.87 for 5 min notice. At this time we also were assigned a XXXX squawk from ZOB. At XA38Z on guard 243.0, we were called by ZOB. Human performance considerations: perception on our behalf was that the 5 min call advisory and the assigned XXXX squawk were covering the airspace exit requirements before the expiration time. It was our understanding that checking in with center prior to the expiration time was sufficient notice of MOA exit, and the then assigned squawk was in fact evidence of exactly that (by ZOB assigning the squawk). We understood through center that we were covered in terms of our exit requirements prior to XA30L. Fighters also claimed a 10 min buffer time at the end of the airspace time.
