Narrative:
Was descending on backcourse to st petersburg/clearwater, fl airport when electrical failure occurred. Recycled master switch. Electrical power returned. Told tower same. Tower instructed, 'immediately climb to 2000.' power then failed permanently. Immediately climbed to 2000' MSL. Headed ssw and descended over gulf of mexico. Landed safely at albert whitted airport, fl, and immediately phoned tower. Maintenance found voltage regulator failed.

Narrative: WAS DSNDING ON BACKCOURSE TO ST PETERSBURG/CLEARWATER, FL ARPT WHEN ELECTRICAL FAILURE OCCURRED. RECYCLED MASTER SWITCH. ELECTRICAL PWR RETURNED. TOLD TWR SAME. TWR INSTRUCTED, 'IMMEDIATELY CLB TO 2000.' PWR THEN FAILED PERMANENTLY. IMMEDIATELY CLBED TO 2000' MSL. HEADED SSW AND DSNDED OVER GULF OF MEXICO. LANDED SAFELY AT ALBERT WHITTED ARPT, FL, AND IMMEDIATELY PHONED TWR. MAINT FOUND VOLTAGE REGULATOR FAILED.
