Narrative:

While climbing through FL180 to our cleared altitude of FL210, we were given at clearance (by mia center) to 'maintain 17000', jax center request.' our rate of climb was in excess of 3000 FPM so the transition from climb to descent was not instantaneous. We were nearly at FL190 by the time our descent was underway. Evidently there was a loss of sep standards with jax center traffic at FL180 and mia center gave us vectors to clear the traffic while we descended in IMC conditions to 17000'.

Title: CPR LTT GIVEN LATE CLRNC TO STOP CLIMB AT AN ALT IT WAS ALREADY PASSED. DESCENT MADE, BUT ATC APPARENTLY HAD A LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION PROBLEM.

Narrative: WHILE CLBING THROUGH FL180 TO OUR CLRED ALT OF FL210, WE WERE GIVEN AT CLRNC (BY MIA CTR) TO 'MAINTAIN 17000', JAX CTR REQUEST.' OUR RATE OF CLB WAS IN EXCESS OF 3000 FPM SO THE TRANSITION FROM CLB TO DSNT WAS NOT INSTANTANEOUS. WE WERE NEARLY AT FL190 BY THE TIME OUR DSNT WAS UNDERWAY. EVIDENTLY THERE WAS A LOSS OF SEP STANDARDS WITH JAX CTR TFC AT FL180 AND MIA CTR GAVE US VECTORS TO CLR THE TFC WHILE WE DSNDED IN IMC CONDITIONS TO 17000'.
