Narrative:
While taxiing off of 20L down taxiway (I was given clearance up to runway 2L), I was unable to clearly identify the yellow lines where to stop short of 2L and went beyond the lines but stopped short of the runway. There was an aircraft departing 20R, but lunken ground control gave me clearance to proceed across 2L and proceed on to my destination. There was sufficient time to do this. The marker sign on the side of the taxiway identing the upcoming runway and the yellow lines are difficult to discern at night. Reflective yellow paint would be a big improvement, as would lighted or illuminated runway identify signs. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states that only the normal blue taxiway light is near the hold line. There are no illuminated signs. The paint for taxi line and hold line has deteriorated and does not show the line at night. Reporter suggests both new reflective paint for taxi and hold lines and light on taxi and runway signs. Potential hazard is great.

Title: SMA PLT UNABLE TO SEE HOLD LINE TAXIS BEYOND.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING OFF OF 20L DOWN TXWY (I WAS GIVEN CLRNC UP TO RWY 2L), I WAS UNABLE TO CLEARLY IDENT THE YELLOW LINES WHERE TO STOP SHORT OF 2L AND WENT BEYOND THE LINES BUT STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY. THERE WAS AN ACFT DEPARTING 20R, BUT LUNKEN GND CTL GAVE ME CLRNC TO PROCEED ACROSS 2L AND PROCEED ON TO MY DEST. THERE WAS SUFFICIENT TIME TO DO THIS. THE MARKER SIGN ON THE SIDE OF THE TXWY IDENTING THE UPCOMING RWY AND THE YELLOW LINES ARE DIFFICULT TO DISCERN AT NIGHT. REFLECTIVE YELLOW PAINT WOULD BE A BIG IMPROVEMENT, AS WOULD LIGHTED OR ILLUMINATED RWY IDENT SIGNS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR STATES THAT ONLY THE NORMAL BLUE TXWY LIGHT IS NEAR THE HOLD LINE. THERE ARE NO ILLUMINATED SIGNS. THE PAINT FOR TAXI LINE AND HOLD LINE HAS DETERIORATED AND DOES NOT SHOW THE LINE AT NIGHT. RPTR SUGGESTS BOTH NEW REFLECTIVE PAINT FOR TAXI AND HOLD LINES AND LIGHT ON TAXI AND RWY SIGNS. POTENTIAL HAZARD IS GREAT.
