Narrative:
We were flying a maintenance ferry from ZZZ to ZZZ1 for storage. I was the pilot flying. We received a normal maintenance mfd for the flight and had all paperwork in hand. All events were normal and uneventful until accomplishing final items checklist. This was accomplished on the taxiway enroute to the active runway. Upon recall of the 6 pack lights/master caution recall; all cabin temp zone lights came on as well as air conditioning master caution light. We held short of the runway on a different taxiway to trouble shoot. We called local ZZZ maintenance and described the event. They told us to contact [maintenance control]. The captain used his cell phone to call dispatch and get a phone patch to [maintenance control]. All three were on the phone. The phone was in his left hand and up to his left ear. I was monitoring ground freq with my headset on. My headset covers both ears. I uncovered my left ear in an attempt to hear the conversation and learn something. It was determined by [maintenance control] that they could defer the maintenance issue and we were good to go without a new mfd. The captain specifically asked; multiple times; if we were good to go and whether or not we needed a new mfd. He was told that we did not need a new one. We put deferral stickers by the zone temp control switches and annotated the new write up in the log book. We completed all of the clean up items and took off for ZZZ1. The remainder of the flight was uneventful. After landing in ZZZ1; the captain received a phone call from the [chief pilot] stating that we needed to write [a report] because [maintenance control] should have made us get a new mfd. [Maintenance control] acknowledged the mistake and took full responsibility for what happened.. That is why I am writing this now.
