Narrative:
On a 4-5 mi right modified base to cle 23R, approach pointed out cpr small transport Y traffic ahead on final for 23L. We called it in sight and approach asked us to keep him in visibility contact, and keep our speed up as long as possible, cleared for visibility 23R. We kept our speed up and caught up with small transport Y about 500-800' AGL on the parallel 23L, and even past him (I didn't know they have a slow approach speed). At this point we were on cle tower, and they told us to go around! There was never a conflict that required any kind of evasive maneuver, but sep had to have been compromised! I noticed on final that we looked close to the cpr small transport y--even mentioned to my first officer that this didn't look right. At that point, I should have initiated a go around, but at the time was confident there was no conflict and continued. Approach could have been more specific in what they wanted from me.

Title: COMMUER LTT ON VISUAL APCH TO RWY 23R AT CLE IS SENT AROUND BY LCL CTLR WHEN COMMUTER PASSES CPR SMT ON FINAL FOR PARALLEL 23L.
Narrative: ON A 4-5 MI RIGHT MODIFIED BASE TO CLE 23R, APCH POINTED OUT CPR SMT Y TFC AHEAD ON FINAL FOR 23L. WE CALLED IT IN SIGHT AND APCH ASKED US TO KEEP HIM IN VIS CONTACT, AND KEEP OUR SPD UP AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, CLRED FOR VIS 23R. WE KEPT OUR SPD UP AND CAUGHT UP WITH SMT Y ABOUT 500-800' AGL ON THE PARALLEL 23L, AND EVEN PAST HIM (I DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAVE A SLOW APCH SPD). AT THIS POINT WE WERE ON CLE TWR, AND THEY TOLD US TO GO AROUND! THERE WAS NEVER A CONFLICT THAT REQUIRED ANY KIND OF EVASIVE MANEUVER, BUT SEP HAD TO HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED! I NOTICED ON FINAL THAT WE LOOKED CLOSE TO THE CPR SMT Y--EVEN MENTIONED TO MY F/O THAT THIS DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT. AT THAT POINT, I SHOULD HAVE INITIATED A GAR, BUT AT THE TIME WAS CONFIDENT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT AND CONTINUED. APCH COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC IN WHAT THEY WANTED FROM ME.
