Narrative:

Crew requested change in routing after departure. The flight dispatcher had rted flight around 2 mountain wave. Crew was informed that the route he was requesting had no driftdown information and was too heavy for terrain clearance. The crew told the dispatcher that terrain clearance and driftdown was for dispatcher planning only and that once airborne he could fly anywhere he wanted. Of course this is in direct violation of the far's. This attitude has been taught in the training department per PIC.
