Narrative:

We were on arrival into ZZZ. We were given VOR direct zzzzz; cross zzzzz at/and maintain 11;000 ft. During this descent to zzzzz intersection; we encountered moderate turbulence and light to moderate rain between 13;000 ft. To 11;000 ft. We were asking approach control for vectors/ deviations to get us out of the weather. The controller was working several other airplanes; also needing vectors; and was able to give us assistance before we got into heavy rain; possible hail; and severe turbulence. We experienced strong up drafts and some down drafts that kicked the autopilot off and prevented us crossing zzzzz at 11;000 ft. We crossed zzzzz at approximately 11;300 ft. Once we passed zzzzz intersection we entered VFR conditions; reengaged the autopilot. We were able to complete the arrival; approach and landed runway xxl. During our post flight inspection we found the damaged to the radome. Paint and fiberglass was missing. Damage to radome and the 'severe turbulence' was written up in the maintenance log and reported to flight control and maintenance control.better communication with and better information/guidance from ATC. The radar was helping up to this point; but did not give us the 'intensity' of the cell in which we flew through. Wifi was not working at the time of the cell encounter; so the nexrad was not available for some guidance.
