Narrative:

We asked for left closed traffic at hayward. Tower said cleared for takeoff left downwind. On downwind we thought she called and cleared us for the option and we acknowledged. After our landing tower called and said she had thought we were doing a downwind departure and we were not cleared for left traffic. No interference with other traffic.

Narrative: WE ASKED FOR L CLOSED TFC AT HAYWARD. TWR SAID CLRED FOR TKOF L DOWNWIND. ON DOWNWIND WE THOUGHT SHE CALLED AND CLRED US FOR THE OPTION AND WE ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER OUR LNDG TWR CALLED AND SAID SHE HAD THOUGHT WE WERE DOING A DOWNWIND DEP AND WE WERE NOT CLRED FOR L TFC. NO INTERFERENCE WITH OTHER TFC.
