Narrative:
Just after gear retraction, heard loud bang followed by heavy airframe vibration. Tower reported fire in #1 engine. Performed engine fire procedure, declared emergency, flew right traffic pattern to runway 16R. Seatac tower advised boeing tower saw fire still in #1 engine. Advised seatac tower I would clear runway 16R a the high speed (C-9) stop and evacuate passenger. From right side of aircraft, I had the F/a prepare for evacuation for landing in 5 min. On short final, I made PA that we would evacuate when we stopped. Landing was good and evacuation was good. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Emergency evacuation was termed by reporter as good because no one was injured. As captain and first officer left the aircraft, passengers had been grouped some 100' off right side clear of all fire equipment and left side had been foamed heavily. All emergency units performed in excellent manner. Flight crew was complimented by several passengers. Reporter on callback very complimentary on the F/a's performance in preparing the passenger for the landing and evacuation and helping the people out of the aircraft. Aft right side door slide did not inflate.

Title: ENGINE FIRE INDICATIONS IN COCKPIT AND OBSERVED BY TWR CTLR. FLT STAYED IN TRAFFIC PATTERN AND LANDED. STOPPED OFF RWY AND EXECUTED EMERGENCY EVACUATION.
Narrative: JUST AFTER GEAR RETRACTION, HEARD LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY HVY AIRFRAME VIBRATION. TWR RPTED FIRE IN #1 ENG. PERFORMED ENG FIRE PROC, DECLARED EMER, FLEW R TFC PATTERN TO RWY 16R. SEATAC TWR ADVISED BOEING TWR SAW FIRE STILL IN #1 ENG. ADVISED SEATAC TWR I WOULD CLR RWY 16R A THE HIGH SPD (C-9) STOP AND EVACUATE PAX. FROM R SIDE OF ACFT, I HAD THE F/A PREPARE FOR EVACUATION FOR LNDG IN 5 MIN. ON SHORT FINAL, I MADE PA THAT WE WOULD EVACUATE WHEN WE STOPPED. LNDG WAS GOOD AND EVACUATION WAS GOOD. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. EMER EVACUATION WAS TERMED BY RPTR AS GOOD BECAUSE NO ONE WAS INJURED. AS CAPT AND F/O LEFT THE ACFT, PAXS HAD BEEN GROUPED SOME 100' OFF R SIDE CLR OF ALL FIRE EQUIP AND L SIDE HAD BEEN FOAMED HEAVILY. ALL EMER UNITS PERFORMED IN EXCELLENT MANNER. FLT CREW WAS COMPLIMENTED BY SEVERAL PAXS. RPTR ON CALLBACK VERY COMPLIMENTARY ON THE F/A'S PERFORMANCE IN PREPARING THE PAX FOR THE LNDG AND EVACUATION AND HELPING THE PEOPLE OUT OF THE ACFT. AFT R SIDE DOOR SLIDE DID NOT INFLATE.
