Narrative:
In april I did my 4 hour x-country flight. My first airport to land at was bdr. I had flight following the whole day but didn't make much use of the bdr VOR because of turbulence. When I could make out the coastline and an airport, I requested a frequency change from flight following. I had the ATIS and proceeded to call bdr tower and told my intentions 9 mi out. They said report entering left downwind. (It was hard to make out the runway numbers). I announced my intentions entering the left downwind. I said it again and then I was told to contact bdr and that I was at new haven airport. I apologized thinking it was bdr and flew an extended downwind leg. I knew if I were at new haven, then I'd have to travel more west along the coast to get to bdr. I passed a white propeller plane to my left on final and continued on. A female voice asked me what altitude I was at (2000') and then notified a plane I believe that was landing east. That was the last of communications with new haven and I was off to bdr.
