Narrative:
Descending on the milton 6 arrival route into lga from marrc fix to vibes fix. Clearance was to cross vibes at 13000' MSL. Leveled at 13000'. The TCAS issued a TA and displayed a red diamond at the 3 O'clock position. Then TCAS issued a climb command and displayed a climb rate of 1500 FPM. We climbed to 300' above our clearance altitude, TCAS issued monitor altitude. Advised ATC of a TCAS alert and of our climb to 13300'. When TCAS displayed the traffic behind us and 500' below, we descended back to 13000' altitude.

THE TCAS ISSUED A TA AND DISPLAYED A RED DIAMOND AT THE 3 O'CLOCK POS. THEN TCAS ISSUED A CLB COMMAND AND DISPLAYED A CLB RATE OF 1500 FPM. WE CLBED TO 300' ABOVE OUR CLRNC ALT, TCAS ISSUED MONITOR ALT. ADVISED ATC OF A TCAS ALERT AND OF OUR CLB TO 13300'. WHEN TCAS DISPLAYED THE TFC BEHIND US AND 500' BELOW, WE DSNDED BACK TO 13000' ALT.
