Narrative:
Bos was using runway 9 for departures and 4R for lndgs. We were cleared to taxi to bravo and hold short of the bravo hold line. After that we were cleared to runway 9 by bravo-sierra one and after crossing runway 4L to contact tower. At that moment I saw an aircraft on a 2 mi final and assumed he was landing on 4R but then thought he may be landing on 4L and looked at my taxiway airport layout chart and saw a conglomeration of bravo which we were on but then south, S1, S2 runway 9, rl, and in small print 2 different stopways, very confusing to glance at and not anticipating previously how we were going to be cleared to runway 9 and with an aircraft on final bearing down on us and not knowing if it was landing on 4L, it was my concern to get across 4L and contact tower. Its easy to see with so much instructions and jumbled up lettering on the chart, the easiest way to get across 4L was bravo and stopway which I assumed from a glance was S1. Of course, which ample time to drink coffee and look at the chart, I can easily see what went wrong. There was no conflict all was normal except a wrong turn to the runway. Suggestions are, either put better signs saying stopway and clrer names stopway in large letters and also anytime a controller has intentions of giving extensive clrncs to travel such a short distance tell you in advance what to expect especially in such a jumbled up corner of the airport such as this one. Supplemental information from acn 175798. Rushed! Tried to get checklists done before takeoff. Nonstandard use of checklists. Captain completed checklists from memory.
