Narrative:
Air carrier X same inbound to mem VOR on assigned heading of 300 degree and 210 KTS. Approach gave us a turn to 270 degree, almost immediately thereafter told us to climb immediately to 7000'. We complied and overshot altitude to 7200'. A later turn to 360 degree was assigned and remainder of vectors and lndgs were normal. During a telephone conversation with an approach control supervisor he told me that this incident was being investigated for a possible loss of sep with air carrier Y at our same altitude (6000'). At no time did I or my first officer see any other aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 176545. Air carrier X on approach to mem at 6000' and 300 degree heading, approach control said: 'air carrier X turn left heading 270 now, climb to 7000' now.' after turn was made nd level at 7000' we were advised traffic no longer in conflict.

Title: POSSIBLE LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION BETWEEN ACR X AND ACR Y. POSSIBLE SYSTEM ERROR. ACR X ALT OVERSHOT ON CLIMB. PLTDEV.
Narrative: ACR X SAME INBND TO MEM VOR ON ASSIGNED HDG OF 300 DEG AND 210 KTS. APCH GAVE US A TURN TO 270 DEG, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER TOLD US TO CLB IMMEDIATELY TO 7000'. WE COMPLIED AND OVERSHOT ALT TO 7200'. A LATER TURN TO 360 DEG WAS ASSIGNED AND REMAINDER OF VECTORS AND LNDGS WERE NORMAL. DURING A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH AN APCH CTL SUPVR HE TOLD ME THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR A POSSIBLE LOSS OF SEP WITH ACR Y AT OUR SAME ALT (6000'). AT NO TIME DID I OR MY F/O SEE ANY OTHER ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 176545. ACR X ON APCH TO MEM AT 6000' AND 300 DEG HDG, APCH CTL SAID: 'ACR X TURN L HDG 270 NOW, CLB TO 7000' NOW.' AFTER TURN WAS MADE ND LEVEL AT 7000' WE WERE ADVISED TFC NO LONGER IN CONFLICT.
