Narrative:
Took off from sequoyah part airport, wind had increased from 15 to 25 KTS at 170-180 degrees. After takeoff I wanted to climb to 3000' and keep a lookout for 3 tv antennas located just to the right of my intended flight direction. A heading of 270 degrees would have taken me correctly to riverside airport, but once airborne I realized that the wind was a lot stronger than I anticipated and the visibility was getting worse due to a lot of haze. I was so absorbed on trying to look for the towers that I neglected to see the compass and the gyros. After about 5 mins being unable to see the tv towers, I looked at my instruments and saw a heading of 330 degrees. I decided to turn to 270 degrees and started to look on the horizon for the familiar landmarks of tulsa downtown and city of faith bldg. I tried to determine my position with the VOR by tuning tul and okmulgee. I got 1 answer. At this time I was able to see the skyline, so I turned to what I believe was the correct heading. As I looked down, I realized that I was very deep in the tul arsa. In retrospect, I should have done the following: 1) checked wind speed and direction before takeoff to determine the correct wind drift angle. 2) checked the dg and landmarks below immediately after takeoff. 3) contacted tul approach anyway in order to receive their guidance. 4) as soon as I realized I was somewhat disoriented, I should have contacted tul approach. 5) trusted my use of the VOR which showed me my correct location.

Title: INEXPERIENCED SMA PLT MAKES AN UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE.
Narrative: TOOK OFF FROM SEQUOYAH PART ARPT, WIND HAD INCREASED FROM 15 TO 25 KTS AT 170-180 DEGS. AFTER TKOF I WANTED TO CLB TO 3000' AND KEEP A LOOKOUT FOR 3 TV ANTENNAS LOCATED JUST TO THE RIGHT OF MY INTENDED FLT DIRECTION. A HDG OF 270 DEGS WOULD HAVE TAKEN ME CORRECTLY TO RIVERSIDE ARPT, BUT ONCE AIRBORNE I REALIZED THAT THE WIND WAS A LOT STRONGER THAN I ANTICIPATED AND THE VISIBILITY WAS GETTING WORSE DUE TO A LOT OF HAZE. I WAS SO ABSORBED ON TRYING TO LOOK FOR THE TWRS THAT I NEGLECTED TO SEE THE COMPASS AND THE GYROS. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINS BEING UNABLE TO SEE THE TV TWRS, I LOOKED AT MY INSTS AND SAW A HDG OF 330 DEGS. I DECIDED TO TURN TO 270 DEGS AND STARTED TO LOOK ON THE HORIZON FOR THE FAMILIAR LANDMARKS OF TULSA DOWNTOWN AND CITY OF FAITH BLDG. I TRIED TO DETERMINE MY POS WITH THE VOR BY TUNING TUL AND OKMULGEE. I GOT 1 ANSWER. AT THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE SKYLINE, SO I TURNED TO WHAT I BELIEVE WAS THE CORRECT HDG. AS I LOOKED DOWN, I REALIZED THAT I WAS VERY DEEP IN THE TUL ARSA. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING: 1) CHKED WIND SPD AND DIRECTION BEFORE TKOF TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT WIND DRIFT ANGLE. 2) CHKED THE DG AND LANDMARKS BELOW IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF. 3) CONTACTED TUL APCH ANYWAY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THEIR GUIDANCE. 4) AS SOON AS I REALIZED I WAS SOMEWHAT DISORIENTED, I SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED TUL APCH. 5) TRUSTED MY USE OF THE VOR WHICH SHOWED ME MY CORRECT LOCATION.
