Narrative:
Received clearance to bur (from oak) via skyline departure, maintain 10000'. I am a check airman giving IOE to a transitioning captain. Neither of us had been through oak in the last 30+ days, but were familiar with the area. We had expected 2000' restriction, but none given. Talked about questioning ATC, but got busy with other preflight duties. Had flown the skyline SID routing hundreds of times before, but both of us missed the 2000' crossing note. This note is very obscure/hidden on both the plan view and in the text (plates). Contacting bay TRACON, the controller asked if we were aware of the altitude note on the SID--obviously not. (The 1 time I had not thoroughly read and highlighted on system airport revision!) obviously my fault, but would recommend a clearer commercial chart presentation.
