Narrative:

First officer landed air carrier medium large transport xyc and I took over taxiing I turned off 18R on B6. Tower had said to hold short of 18L. They then told mdt xyd to cross 18L, which I mistook for us and I answered, 'medium large transport xyc, cleared to cross.' I had pwred up to keep rolling as the tower then cleared air carrier light transport Z for takeoff 18L. I was surprised by this and decided to continue across instead of slamming on the brakes. There was no danger of a collision at any time. While this was happening, my first officer was checking with company on the other radio. When we cleared the runway, ground control said, 'cleared to your gate and recontact the tower.' we had a short discussion and I told him I had answered him when the runway crossing was given to air carrier mdt xyd. Supplemental information from acn 178011: the captain would have had to really stand on the brakes to stop before entry onto the runway--and would not have made the hold short line. The air carrier light transport Z had not begun its takeoff roll and was at least 6000' away, so the captain decided to continue across.

Title: ACR MLG XYC REPLIES TO WRONG CALL SIGN FOR TAXI ACROSS ACTIVE RWY, GND CONFLICT ENSUES.

Narrative: F/O LANDED ACR MLG XYC AND I TOOK OVER TAXIING I TURNED OFF 18R ON B6. TWR HAD SAID TO HOLD SHORT OF 18L. THEY THEN TOLD MDT XYD TO CROSS 18L, WHICH I MISTOOK FOR US AND I ANSWERED, 'MLG XYC, CLRED TO CROSS.' I HAD PWRED UP TO KEEP ROLLING AS THE TWR THEN CLRED ACR LTT Z FOR TKOF 18L. I WAS SURPRISED BY THIS AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE ACROSS INSTEAD OF SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. THERE WAS NO DANGER OF A COLLISION AT ANY TIME. WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING, MY F/O WAS CHKING WITH COMPANY ON THE OTHER RADIO. WHEN WE CLRED THE RWY, GND CTL SAID, 'CLRED TO YOUR GATE AND RECONTACT THE TWR.' WE HAD A SHORT DISCUSSION AND I TOLD HIM I HAD ANSWERED HIM WHEN THE RWY XING WAS GIVEN TO ACR MDT XYD. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 178011: THE CAPT WOULD HAVE HAD TO REALLY STAND ON THE BRAKES TO STOP BEFORE ENTRY ONTO THE RWY--AND WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE ACR LTT Z HAD NOT BEGUN ITS TKOF ROLL AND WAS AT LEAST 6000' AWAY, SO THE CAPT DECIDED TO CONTINUE ACROSS.
