Narrative:

Approach control advised us we were #1. As we descended beneath the clouds we called the field in sight and were cleared for the visibility approach, to turn final no closer than 4 mi. (We were arriving from the west to land on runway 28R and were north of the field). The captain called 4 mi and I started a right turn, 25 degree bank toward the base leg. I then tightened the turn to 30 degrees and decided to continue the turn to final. At this time the captain was switching frequencys to talk to tower. Being #1, I was keeping my speed up, still 240 KIAS. We flew through the final for runway 28R and near the final for 28L on which an air carrier medium large transport Y was making an approach. The medium large transport Y was ahead of and above us. We continued our turn back to 28R. At that time tower asked if we were going to 28R. The main problem was our fast approach speed, causing our turning radius to be wider than I had planned for. We continued the approach and landed west/O further incident. Our aircraft was not equipped with TCAS.

Title: AIRBORNE CONFLICT RESULTS FROM ACR FLT CREW MAKING A WIDE A TURN TO FINAL ON VISUAL APCH AT PIT.

Narrative: APCH CTL ADVISED US WE WERE #1. AS WE DSNDED BENEATH THE CLOUDS WE CALLED THE FIELD IN SIGHT AND WERE CLRED FOR THE VIS APCH, TO TURN FINAL NO CLOSER THAN 4 MI. (WE WERE ARRIVING FROM THE W TO LAND ON RWY 28R AND WERE N OF THE FIELD). THE CAPT CALLED 4 MI AND I STARTED A RIGHT TURN, 25 DEG BANK TOWARD THE BASE LEG. I THEN TIGHTENED THE TURN TO 30 DEGS AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE TURN TO FINAL. AT THIS TIME THE CAPT WAS SWITCHING FREQS TO TALK TO TWR. BEING #1, I WAS KEEPING MY SPD UP, STILL 240 KIAS. WE FLEW THROUGH THE FINAL FOR RWY 28R AND NEAR THE FINAL FOR 28L ON WHICH AN ACR MLG Y WAS MAKING AN APCH. THE MLG Y WAS AHEAD OF AND ABOVE US. WE CONTINUED OUR TURN BACK TO 28R. AT THAT TIME TWR ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO 28R. THE MAIN PROB WAS OUR FAST APCH SPD, CAUSING OUR TURNING RADIUS TO BE WIDER THAN I HAD PLANNED FOR. WE CONTINUED THE APCH AND LANDED W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. OUR ACFT WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH TCAS.
