Narrative:
Landed aircraft in high mountain meadow, apparently on forest service land. Aircraft became stuck in about 8' of mud. Became 1 hour overdue on VFR flight plan. After extracting aircraft from mud, took off and contacted rdm FSS. Landed to check out rough running engine. Next time, should land on airstrip or road. But crosswind dictated landing into wind, which meant the meadow. No damage to aircraft or occupants. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states he has taken a great deal of static (humorous) about this incident, because of his position as a state aviation official. In addition, his passenger was an officer in the air national guard. They both are targets for much humor. Reason for rough engine seems to boil down to a bad magnetic. Everything around it has been replaced and still there is intermittent roughness. New magnetic has been ordered.

Title: SMA STUCK IN MUD AFTER A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG IN MEADOW.
Narrative: LANDED ACFT IN HIGH MOUNTAIN MEADOW, APPARENTLY ON FOREST SVC LAND. ACFT BECAME STUCK IN ABOUT 8' OF MUD. BECAME 1 HR OVERDUE ON VFR FLT PLAN. AFTER EXTRACTING ACFT FROM MUD, TOOK OFF AND CONTACTED RDM FSS. LANDED TO CHK OUT ROUGH RUNNING ENG. NEXT TIME, SHOULD LAND ON AIRSTRIP OR ROAD. BUT XWIND DICTATED LNDG INTO WIND, WHICH MEANT THE MEADOW. NO DAMAGE TO ACFT OR OCCUPANTS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR STATES HE HAS TAKEN A GREAT DEAL OF STATIC (HUMOROUS) ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, BECAUSE OF HIS POS AS A STATE AVIATION OFFICIAL. IN ADDITION, HIS PAX WAS AN OFFICER IN THE AIR NATL GUARD. THEY BOTH ARE TARGETS FOR MUCH HUMOR. REASON FOR ROUGH ENG SEEMS TO BOIL DOWN TO A BAD MAG. EVERYTHING AROUND IT HAS BEEN REPLACED AND STILL THERE IS INTERMITTENT ROUGHNESS. NEW MAG HAS BEEN ORDERED.
