Narrative:

Shortly after takeoff, we turned to the heading of 185 degrees. We received for our ACARS clearance delivery printout. Takeoff was from runway 13 and when we switched to departure frequency we were asked what heading tower had assigned us. I replied no heading, we only had our clearance of 185 degrees. At that time the captain who was flying the aircraft pointed out the traffic in front of us by 2 mi at 1 O'clock, and also the display on our TCAS. I did not read back any heading to tower when we were cleared for takeoff. Departure control immediately returned us to runway heading which he said should have been issued to us by tower prior to takeoff.
