Narrative:
We were at 3000' MSL being radar vectored for an ILS to runway 16 at white plains, ny. Ny approach called VFR traffic at 10 O'clock, 2500', at the same time we got a TCAS alert and the TCAS showed the traffic 500' below us. We looked for the traffic, but couldn't see it due to the thick haze. The TCAS issued a RA to climb immediately, the TCAS now showed the traffic 400' below us. We advised ny approach that we were responding to a TCAS command and climbing. We climbed to 3350' to be halfway between the traffic below us and other traffic at 4000'. As soon as the TCAS showed clear of conflict we immediately descended back to 3000' MSL.
