Narrative:
On an IFR flight plan from iad to bdr, then on to eht. WX brief with leesburg FSS was very complete and included all warnings. Briefing was at XX30 local for an XY30 departure from iad. Filed 2 IFR flight plans, added 700 pounds of additional fuel and called our dispatch for their version of the WX in hartford (a cold front was moving southeast from the great lakes region through new england and severe thunderstorms were ahead of front with tops to FL400). Dispatch briefed on thunderstorm activity around albany, ny, moving ese at 40 KTS. Rechked WX with FSS and was briefed on line from new hampshire to nyc. Called dispatch and was told about same WX as earlier briefing with them and decided to depart iad en route to bdr. At cruise, copilot attempted to contact dispatch on flight phone but phone was inoperative, so contact with FSS was attempted. For the first 20 mins contact was unsuccessful until near ny area. No WX problems yet, but thunderstorms were seen to the east and northeast. Passenger expressed concern about bdr and would go to eht, but I knew that the WX would not allow. Stayed on course for bdr. Started asking copilot to find open airport not yet hit by thunderstorm, but couldn't get much help. Finally arrived within 30 mi of bdr. Radar showed WX north of us. Bdr tower was contacted by me to get most current WX when we went IFR in clouds, followed by severe turbulence. I started left 180 degree turn to exit area while trying to maintain control of aircraft. Altitude was -800 to +250' and 4000' was maintained when we exited the turbulence area. ATC was notified of turbulence and altitude and our return to altitude assigned. Controller suggested landing at isp and flight was terminated until WX cleared. My WX briefing with leesburg was correct, but I picked dispatch to believe--never again. I should have never continued once WX started boxing me in and should have had a better plan for landing and waiting out WX.

Title: CPR FLT CREW ENCOUNTERS BAD WX.
Narrative: ON AN IFR FLT PLAN FROM IAD TO BDR, THEN ON TO EHT. WX BRIEF WITH LEESBURG FSS WAS VERY COMPLETE AND INCLUDED ALL WARNINGS. BRIEFING WAS AT XX30 LCL FOR AN XY30 DEP FROM IAD. FILED 2 IFR FLT PLANS, ADDED 700 LBS OF ADDITIONAL FUEL AND CALLED OUR DISPATCH FOR THEIR VERSION OF THE WX IN HARTFORD (A COLD FRONT WAS MOVING SE FROM THE GREAT LAKES REGION THROUGH NEW ENGLAND AND SEVERE TSTMS WERE AHEAD OF FRONT WITH TOPS TO FL400). DISPATCH BRIEFED ON TSTM ACTIVITY AROUND ALBANY, NY, MOVING ESE AT 40 KTS. RECHKED WX WITH FSS AND WAS BRIEFED ON LINE FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE TO NYC. CALLED DISPATCH AND WAS TOLD ABOUT SAME WX AS EARLIER BRIEFING WITH THEM AND DECIDED TO DEPART IAD ENRTE TO BDR. AT CRUISE, COPLT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT DISPATCH ON FLT PHONE BUT PHONE WAS INOP, SO CONTACT WITH FSS WAS ATTEMPTED. FOR THE FIRST 20 MINS CONTACT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL UNTIL NEAR NY AREA. NO WX PROBS YET, BUT TSTMS WERE SEEN TO THE E AND NE. PAX EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT BDR AND WOULD GO TO EHT, BUT I KNEW THAT THE WX WOULD NOT ALLOW. STAYED ON COURSE FOR BDR. STARTED ASKING COPLT TO FIND OPEN ARPT NOT YET HIT BY TSTM, BUT COULDN'T GET MUCH HELP. FINALLY ARRIVED WITHIN 30 MI OF BDR. RADAR SHOWED WX N OF US. BDR TWR WAS CONTACTED BY ME TO GET MOST CURRENT WX WHEN WE WENT IFR IN CLOUDS, FOLLOWED BY SEVERE TURB. I STARTED LEFT 180 DEG TURN TO EXIT AREA WHILE TRYING TO MAINTAIN CTL OF ACFT. ALT WAS -800 TO +250' AND 4000' WAS MAINTAINED WHEN WE EXITED THE TURB AREA. ATC WAS NOTIFIED OF TURB AND ALT AND OUR RETURN TO ALT ASSIGNED. CTLR SUGGESTED LNDG AT ISP AND FLT WAS TERMINATED UNTIL WX CLRED. MY WX BRIEFING WITH LEESBURG WAS CORRECT, BUT I PICKED DISPATCH TO BELIEVE--NEVER AGAIN. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER CONTINUED ONCE WX STARTED BOXING ME IN AND SHOULD HAVE HAD A BETTER PLAN FOR LNDG AND WAITING OUT WX.
