Narrative:
On taxi-out from gate area, we taxied on 1 engine. Near 14L hold short area we started #2 engine. On start engine torched. Secured engine. Tower had called crash crew. They inspected engine. No damage. Started #2 engine normally and continued normal operation. Engines sometimes torch and start for various reasons. We were under the tower area and next to the fire house. The tower saw the fuel fog then the torch and they called the crash crew. Since they already responded to the tower's call, I thought they should inspect the engine for a real fire. There was none, and since this is not uncommon, I started the engine with the fire crew there. They gave me a thumbs up and I proceeded with the fly-by.
