Narrative:
I was hand-flying the aircraft level at 6000', 250 KTS, and figured I'd be better off with my clear glasses rather than sunglasses. It was dusk and we were now IMC. The first officer took over the flying while I got out my glasses. This is normally about a 5 second job or less. Just than approach called traffic climbing to 5000'. 1 second later, the TCAS yells 'climb,' along with the vsi commands. I'm now ready to fly but checked the screen to see our traffic 1400' below us. First officer rapidly advanced the power to about the takeoff range and pulled the nose up. This was not a smooth maneuver and my ff/a dumped drinks on some folks in the back. I checked to see if he was over temping the engines and took control of the flying again. I had, I guess, been off the controls for about 5 seconds. I was climbing at a smart clip and smoothly but quickly retarded the power and started the nose over. I was out of trim with my airspeed about 300 KTS. My TCAS screen was clear. I missed the level off at 600' by 300' (5700') because of my high airspeed and quick descent. My first officer was calling for me to level off; i.e., 'what are you doing?' I had started to get the nose up before this call, but he couldn't tell because it was not a high G maneuver. Following the TCAS command was not necessary since the traffic leveled at 5000', which is what I told the first officer on the ground, as well as 'don't fly with me again.' also, the first officer erased the voice recorder on the ground. I did not ask him nor want him to do this. He didn't ask me.

Title: APCH CTLR CALLED TRAFFIC CLIMBING TO 5000', MLG LEVELING AT 6000' HAD TCAS COMMAND TO CLIMB. FO AT CTLRS INITATED CLIMB. CAPT TOOK OVER AND DESCENDING BACK TO 6000' OVERSHOT TO 5700'.
Narrative: I WAS HAND-FLYING THE ACFT LEVEL AT 6000', 250 KTS, AND FIGURED I'D BE BETTER OFF WITH MY CLR GLASSES RATHER THAN SUNGLASSES. IT WAS DUSK AND WE WERE NOW IMC. THE F/O TOOK OVER THE FLYING WHILE I GOT OUT MY GLASSES. THIS IS NORMALLY ABOUT A 5 SEC JOB OR LESS. JUST THAN APCH CALLED TFC CLBING TO 5000'. 1 SEC LATER, THE TCAS YELLS 'CLB,' ALONG WITH THE VSI COMMANDS. I'M NOW READY TO FLY BUT CHKED THE SCREEN TO SEE OUR TFC 1400' BELOW US. F/O RAPIDLY ADVANCED THE PWR TO ABOUT THE TKOF RANGE AND PULLED THE NOSE UP. THIS WAS NOT A SMOOTH MANEUVER AND MY FF/A DUMPED DRINKS ON SOME FOLKS IN THE BACK. I CHKED TO SEE IF HE WAS OVER TEMPING THE ENGS AND TOOK CTL OF THE FLYING AGAIN. I HAD, I GUESS, BEEN OFF THE CTLS FOR ABOUT 5 SECS. I WAS CLBING AT A SMART CLIP AND SMOOTHLY BUT QUICKLY RETARDED THE PWR AND STARTED THE NOSE OVER. I WAS OUT OF TRIM WITH MY AIRSPD ABOUT 300 KTS. MY TCAS SCREEN WAS CLR. I MISSED THE LEVEL OFF AT 600' BY 300' (5700') BECAUSE OF MY HIGH AIRSPD AND QUICK DSNT. MY F/O WAS CALLING FOR ME TO LEVEL OFF; I.E., 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?' I HAD STARTED TO GET THE NOSE UP BEFORE THIS CALL, BUT HE COULDN'T TELL BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A HIGH G MANEUVER. FOLLOWING THE TCAS COMMAND WAS NOT NECESSARY SINCE THE TFC LEVELED AT 5000', WHICH IS WHAT I TOLD THE F/O ON THE GND, AS WELL AS 'DON'T FLY WITH ME AGAIN.' ALSO, THE F/O ERASED THE VOICE RECORDER ON THE GND. I DID NOT ASK HIM NOR WANT HIM TO DO THIS. HE DIDN'T ASK ME.
