Narrative:

I had just landed and taxied to parking. I was pushing the plane into the tiedown when 2 police cars rolled up, with their spotlights on me, and with an order to put my hands on top of my head. I was frisked, all my pockets were emptied, handcuffed, and placed into the back of a police car. The 2 officers approached the plane with guns drawn to search for other occupants. They removed my briefcase, flight bag, etc, and searched everything very thoroughly. Another police car arrived with a plain-clothes detective. I was finally able to find out that I was being arrested for taking an airplane west/O authority/authorized. An officer of the club, I believe, arrived and idented me. The detective and the club officer left to check that I had really filed a flight plan. After an hour in handcuffs, I was released with apologies from the police. What I didn't know is that the club has been having problems with someone using the plane at night west/O authority/authorized (the tower closes at 2300 local). The police have been trying to catch this person. It is the suspicion of the club that someone is flying the plane to cleveland (burke lakefront airport), and exchanging drugs for cash with someone in a boat. Burke also has a part-time tower. What I didn't know was that the scheduler had written me down for the wrong airplane at the wrong airport. When the plane I flew turned up missing (while I was flying from osu to medina, oh), the police were notified that the plane had been 'borrowed' again. Therefore, they were waiting for my return.

Title: REPORTER IS DETAINED BY LCL POLICE UNTIL HE IS IDENTIFIED AS AN AUTHORIZED OPERATOR OF THE CLUB ACFT.

Narrative: I HAD JUST LANDED AND TAXIED TO PARKING. I WAS FRISKED, ALL MY POCKETS WERE EMPTIED, HANDCUFFED, AND PLACED INTO THE BACK OF A POLICE CAR. THE 2 OFFICERS APCHED THE PLANE WITH GUNS DRAWN TO SEARCH FOR OTHER OCCUPANTS. THEY REMOVED MY BRIEFCASE, FLT BAG, ETC, AND SEARCHED EVERYTHING VERY THOROUGHLY. ANOTHER POLICE CAR ARRIVED WITH A PLAIN-CLOTHES DETECTIVE. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO FIND OUT THAT I WAS BEING ARRESTED FOR TAKING AN AIRPLANE W/O AUTH. AN OFFICER OF THE CLUB, I BELIEVE, ARRIVED AND IDENTED ME. THE DETECTIVE AND THE CLUB OFFICER LEFT TO CHK THAT I HAD REALLY FILED A FLT PLAN. AFTER AN HR IN HANDCUFFS, I WAS RELEASED WITH APOLOGIES FROM THE POLICE. WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW IS THAT THE CLUB HAS BEEN HAVING PROBS WITH SOMEONE USING THE PLANE AT NIGHT W/O AUTH (THE TWR CLOSES AT 2300 LCL). THE POLICE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CATCH THIS PERSON. IT IS THE SUSPICION OF THE CLUB THAT SOMEONE IS FLYING THE PLANE TO CLEVELAND (BURKE LAKEFRONT ARPT), AND EXCHANGING DRUGS FOR CASH WITH SOMEONE IN A BOAT. BURKE ALSO HAS A PART-TIME TWR. WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THAT THE SCHEDULER HAD WRITTEN ME DOWN FOR THE WRONG AIRPLANE AT THE WRONG ARPT. WHEN THE PLANE I FLEW TURNED UP MISSING (WHILE I WAS FLYING FROM OSU TO MEDINA, OH), THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THE PLANE HAD BEEN 'BORROWED' AGAIN. THEREFORE, THEY WERE WAITING FOR MY RETURN.
