Narrative:
Jax center issued a rerte to my flight to change from the chesterfield arrival, proceed direct greenwood unarm arrival to clt. The problem I have is the WX on the chesterfield arrival was light rain showers with some small areas of moderate rain. My radar showed heavy rain between greenwood and clt. I requested to remain on the chesterfield arrival. My request was denied the controller stating that the 'airspace was closed.' jax center frequency 124.07 subjected my flight to a more precarious flight than had I stayed on my flight plan. I do not feel it is proper to declare an emergency to use the normal arrival airspace. ATC lacked flexibility and exercised extremely poor judgement. Normally I feel it is a team effort between the aircrew and ATC, but when airspace is 'closed' coupled with such extremely poor judgement as shown by ATC it is only a matter of time before an accident or mishap occurs.
