Narrative:

This was an aircraft familiarization flight with a new owner of the aircraft. I was instructing. After completing local maneuvers, we entered the traffic pattern and completed 2 touch and goes with the student at the controls. On the upwind leg before the gear was retracted, I took over flying as I discussed the student's performance of airspeed control. I think I did not retract the gear until on downwind when I usually put the gear down. Throughout the flight in the pattern my attention was diverted by discussing the student's performance. The flaps were fully extended and the power was reduced to idle but no gear warning sounded. This would have been avoided if: I did not allow my attention to be diverted. No touch and goes were done. The gear warning horn was operative.
