Narrative:
This incident occurred during takeoff roll at charleston international, sc. Air carrier X was cleared to taxi to runway 15 via taxiways a and I to hold short of runways 15, 21 and 15 respectively. Chs ATC tower cleared our flight air carrier X to back taxi into position and hold on runway 15. Mlt Y transport was making practice approachs to runway 15. Previously to our back taxi on the runway chs tower had told mlt Y to circle to the north of the field and was 'cleared for the option to runway 21.' we were cleared for takeoff on runway 15. Just before we rotated for takeoff I heard the mlt Y being told to go around. I glanced to my left and saw mlt Y approximately 300-400 ft over the runway 21 threshold initiating a go around. I told my first officer, who was flying the aircraft to be careful as an mlt was going to pass overhead. He reduced the rate of rotation in order to give us more space between the mlt and us. This lengthened our takeoff roll. Mlt Y passed, I believe, just aft and approximately 300-400 ft above us. The only evasive action was slow our rotation at takeoff.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X HAD NMAC WITH MLT Y. SEE AND AVOID CONCEPT. MULTIPLE RWY OP INTERSECTING RWYS. EVASIVE ACTION TAKEN.
Narrative: THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING TKOF ROLL AT CHARLESTON INTL, SC. ACR X WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 15 VIA TAXIWAYS A AND I TO HOLD SHORT OF RWYS 15, 21 AND 15 RESPECTIVELY. CHS ATC TWR CLRED OUR FLT ACR X TO BACK TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 15. MLT Y TRANSPORT WAS MAKING PRACTICE APCHS TO RWY 15. PREVIOUSLY TO OUR BACK TAXI ON THE RWY CHS TWR HAD TOLD MLT Y TO CIRCLE TO THE N OF THE FIELD AND WAS 'CLRED FOR THE OPTION TO RWY 21.' WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 15. JUST BEFORE WE ROTATED FOR TKOF I HEARD THE MLT Y BEING TOLD TO GAR. I GLANCED TO MY L AND SAW MLT Y APPROX 300-400 FT OVER THE RWY 21 THRESHOLD INITIATING A GAR. I TOLD MY FO, WHO WAS FLYING THE ACFT TO BE CAREFUL AS AN MLT WAS GOING TO PASS OVERHEAD. HE REDUCED THE RATE OF ROTATION IN ORDER TO GIVE US MORE SPACE BTWN THE MLT AND US. THIS LENGTHENED OUR TKOF ROLL. MLT Y PASSED, I BELIEVE, JUST AFT AND APPROX 300-400 FT ABOVE US. THE ONLY EVASIVE ACTION WAS SLOW OUR ROTATION AT TKOF.
