Narrative:
On gorman 9 departure off lax, controller cleared us to 9000 ft and 360 degree heading. Subsequent altitude clearance to 13000 ft. Approximately 9580 ft MSL controller issued clearance to maintain 9000 ft. Captain immediately disconnected automatic throttle and descended to 9000 ft. Looked to our 10 O'clock position and sighted a widebody transport aircraft presumed to be at 10000 ft. After talking with ATC facility, determined aircraft was other airline flight.
