Narrative:
Flight was en route from great bend, ks (gbd) to kansas city international airport (mci) at 9500 MSL. Nearing the city of topeka, ks, the first officer called traffic out at 3 O'clock and very low. This traffic was jet traffic, and was doing air show work. I turned the aircraft approximately 45 degree left of course to put as much distance between our flight paths as I could. Upon returning to mci we checked and found that topeka had a NOTAM for protected airspace within 5 NM of forbes field from surface to 18000 ft. I do not know if I was in this airspace or not, but I do not feel that I was. However, I am writing this report to suggest that special closures of airspace within 100 NM of any TCA of high density airport should be notamed at that facility (i.e., mci) to avoid this type of occurrence. This is in the radius that letdowns, picking up ATIS, briefings, etc, occur, and the crew is somewhat distracted from outside observations.
