Narrative:
It was a beautiful night to fly, so I picked up a friend after having flown for about 2 1/2 hours. Plane flies right wing low so I had used fuel from that tank for a large portion of the flight. Spent majority of a 1/2 hour flight describing handling the plane. Got so immersed, I forgot to do a landing checklist, on taxi back and takeoff got rushed with traffic and talking. Cannot believe I forgot to do a takeoff checklist! Took off with fuel selector on right tank. On climb out with remaining fuel in back of tanks due to acceleration and nose up attitude, engine died at 50-100 ft AGL. Landed on last 500-700 ft of runway hot and applied heavy brakes. Plane stayed straight but blew left main before running off the end of the runway onto grass. Airport manager and mechanics were called, tire replaced, plane inspected. No further damage except bald spot on right main which was replaced next day. Learned that a 500-600 hour pilot (or more) cannot afford distrs. Do the checklists!

ON CLBOUT WITH REMAINING FUEL IN BACK OF TANKS DUE TO ACCELERATION AND NOSE UP ATTITUDE, ENG DIED AT 50-100 FT AGL. LANDED ON LAST 500-700 FT OF RWY HOT AND APPLIED HVY BRAKES.
