Narrative:

Filed a flight plan from sju-bos via sju vermo 2 departure grann transition amber 523 linnd direct plume J55 pvd V151 inddy direct bos. This route was filed by company dispatch due to en route WX along the usual routing of vermo 2 grann g- 432 bda A632 ack SCUPP1 arrival bos. 20 min before departure, I as first officer called clearance delivery and was issued the following: vermo 2 grann G-432 af, 020 degree heading after to maintain 5000 ft expect 280 in 10. Departure frequency 120.9 squawk XXXX. Please note at this time that on the SID page for the vermo 2, the airway G-432 runs from sju to grann intersection and from grann to bda. After departure flight was cleared direct grann as filed. At 10 mins prior to reaching grann I contacted new york communication radio for a SELCAL check on HF 11396 and told this controller our SELCAL identify and our route of flight as sju A-523 bos. The captain also monitored and verified all communications and rtings received since contact with clearance delivery. A position report was filed after passing over grann. Approximately 10 mins later new york communication radio selcaled us to confirm our routing which we replied was A-523 linnd etc, etc. We were then told ATC showed us as G-432 bda A-632 act etc. We stated that we could go directly to owski intersection, when new york told us they had no problem with our routing on A-523 and again cleared us via this route. The flight continued without any further confusion. I feel the problem lies somewhat with the relay of clrncs between new york ATC, oceanic and san juan. Also the route G-432 as stated earlier runs north to grann and from grann north to bda. When a clearance such as ours reads G-432 as filed with no further points stated and the phrase 'as filed' leads one to believe that the G-432 is to grann and the as filed portion was the flight plan route filed by company dispatch. Also, this flight plan was also the routing which automatically received by our dual FMS system. Since no ATC facility used any point after grann, this also led us to confirm our routing as A-523 as filed.

APPROX 10 MINS LATER NEW YORK COM RADIO SELCALED US TO CONFIRM OUR RTING WHICH WE REPLIED WAS A-523 LINND ETC, ETC. WE WERE THEN TOLD ATC SHOWED US AS G-432 BDA A-632 ACT ETC. WE STATED THAT WE COULD GO DIRECTLY TO OWSKI INTXN, WHEN NEW YORK TOLD US THEY HAD NO PROBLEM WITH OUR RTING ON A-523 AND AGAIN CLRED US VIA THIS RTE. THE FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER CONFUSION. I FEEL THE PROBLEM LIES SOMEWHAT WITH THE RELAY OF CLRNCS BTWN NEW YORK ATC, OCEANIC AND SAN JUAN. ALSO THE RTE G-432 AS STATED EARLIER RUNS N TO GRANN AND FROM GRANN N TO BDA. WHEN A CLRNC SUCH AS OURS READS G-432 AS FILED WITH NO FURTHER POINTS STATED AND THE PHRASE 'AS FILED' LEADS ONE TO BELIEVE THAT THE G-432 IS TO GRANN AND THE AS FILED PORTION WAS THE FLT PLAN RTE FILED BY COMPANY DISPATCH. ALSO, THIS FLT PLAN WAS ALSO THE RTING WHICH AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVED BY OUR DUAL FMS SYS. SINCE NO ATC FACILITY USED ANY POINT AFTER GRANN, THIS ALSO LED US TO CONFIRM OUR RTING AS A-523 AS FILED.
