Narrative:

Upon taxi out from the wrangell (wrg) ramp to the runway, aircraft jet blast broke the outer pane of the terminal building window. There is no taxi line to follow from the ramp/parking area to the taxiway. Acting captain started his turn towards the taxiway too early and had to add power when aircraft stopped. At this point in the taxi the aircraft engines were facing the company owned terminal building, and the jet blast broke the window. Nobody was injured during this event. After departure from wrangell, the crew was notified of the event on company radio. Additional factors: company is currently expanding terminal building in wrangell, and construction manager requested the acting captain to make an early turn towards taxiway to blow away loose insulation from wet concrete. Neither the acting captain nor construction manager anticipated the requirement for additional thrust. Also the normal parking procedure is to park the aircraft parallel to the terminal building, with the aircraft wingtip within 40-50 ft of the building. I believe the situation would not occur again if the aircraft was parked further from the terminal building, and jet blast deflectors are erected in front of the building. A taxi out line from the ramp area to the taxiway would also help. I am a check airman with the company, qualified to fly both the left and right seats of the medium large transport. My first officer is also qualified to fly both the left and right seats of the medium large transport. Company policy allows me to switch seats with a qualified (captain qualified) first officer.

Title: ACR JET BLAST BREAKS WINDOW.

Narrative: UPON TAXI OUT FROM THE WRANGELL (WRG) RAMP TO THE RWY, ACFT JET BLAST BROKE THE OUTER PANE OF THE TERMINAL BUILDING WINDOW. THERE IS NO TAXI LINE TO FOLLOW FROM THE RAMP/PARKING AREA TO THE TAXIWAY. ACTING CAPT STARTED HIS TURN TOWARDS THE TAXIWAY TOO EARLY AND HAD TO ADD PWR WHEN ACFT STOPPED. AT THIS POINT IN THE TAXI THE ACFT ENGS WERE FACING THE COMPANY OWNED TERMINAL BUILDING, AND THE JET BLAST BROKE THE WINDOW. NOBODY WAS INJURED DURING THIS EVENT. AFTER DEP FROM WRANGELL, THE CREW WAS NOTIFIED OF THE EVENT ON COMPANY RADIO. ADDITIONAL FACTORS: COMPANY IS CURRENTLY EXPANDING TERMINAL BUILDING IN WRANGELL, AND CONSTRUCTION MGR REQUESTED THE ACTING CAPT TO MAKE AN EARLY TURN TOWARDS TAXIWAY TO BLOW AWAY LOOSE INSULATION FROM WET CONCRETE. NEITHER THE ACTING CAPT NOR CONSTRUCTION MGR ANTICIPATED THE REQUIREMENT FOR ADDITIONAL THRUST. ALSO THE NORMAL PARKING PROC IS TO PARK THE ACFT PARALLEL TO THE TERMINAL BUILDING, WITH THE ACFT WINGTIP WITHIN 40-50 FT OF THE BUILDING. I BELIEVE THE SITUATION WOULD NOT OCCUR AGAIN IF THE ACFT WAS PARKED FURTHER FROM THE TERMINAL BUILDING, AND JET BLAST DEFLECTORS ARE ERECTED IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING. A TAXI OUT LINE FROM THE RAMP AREA TO THE TAXIWAY WOULD ALSO HELP. I AM A CHK AIRMAN WITH THE COMPANY, QUALIFIED TO FLY BOTH THE L AND R SEATS OF THE MLG. MY FO IS ALSO QUALIFIED TO FLY BOTH THE L AND R SEATS OF THE MLG. COMPANY POLICY ALLOWS ME TO SWITCH SEATS WITH A QUALIFIED (CAPT QUALIFIED) FO.
