Narrative:
While on right base to runway 01, about to turn final, saw aircraft 12 O'clock on left base (opposite direction) to same runway. Was cleared to land with my traffic (on short final) in sight. Took evasive action by turning right (as other aircraft turned right) and descending. Tower controller seemed overly busy and had considerable difficulty controling the frequency.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA ON BASE LEG TOOK EVASIVE ACTION TO MISS ANOTHER SMA TURNING FINAL FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTION BASE LEG.
Narrative: WHILE ON R BASE TO RWY 01, ABOUT TO TURN FINAL, SAW ACFT 12 O'CLOCK ON L BASE (OPPOSITE DIRECTION) TO SAME RWY. WAS CLRED TO LAND WITH MY TFC (ON SHORT FINAL) IN SIGHT. TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY TURNING R (AS OTHER ACFT TURNED R) AND DSNDING. TWR CTLR SEEMED OVERLY BUSY AND HAD CONSIDERABLE DIFFICULTY CTLING THE FREQ.
