Narrative:

On IFR flight plan, apa to psp. About 1/2 hour after takeoff, at cruise level 180 and cruise power. Noticeable vibration in engine and power loss with windmilling propeller. About 30 seconds later, engine shudders violently and propeller freezes. Unable to restart engine. Unable to make nearest airport 30 mi away over mountain range. All terrain covered in fresh snow. Descend and land on rural mountain road. Sustain skin damage to left wing due to hitting 3 steel reflector stakes for snowplow drivers. No people injured. Cause of engine stoppage not yet known as engine teardown has yet to occur. Engine is a factory remanufactured engine with 0 time logbook and 'gold seal warranty.' only 79 hours since new and only 4 hours since annual inspection. There are many more small, in-between details to above event. Once I view the engine teardown, hope to know why engine quit.
