Narrative:
I departed rnh with 1 passenger on an IFR flight direct to dtw. I took off on runway 31 and departed the area on downwind to the east. The airplane was light, the air cool and climb was very good. Due to inattn I went right through the overcast while calling center for my clearance. I should have gotten a void time. The ceiling was lower than I expected.
