Narrative:
On a trip returning to us (pbi) from bahamas (stella maris) on VFR plan, intercom radio system failed and then radio failed, unbeknownst to me. WX needed dodging. Miami did not answer our call, climbed from 1500 to 6500 and miami still did not answer our call. We tried different settings after no one answered a 'any station' call concluded no transmission capability. Since we were in ADIZ, over due to ADIZ within sight of lauderdale, that we would squawk 7600 and head to pbi direct. We continued to try different radio combinations. Within 1 min of 7600 pbi approach answered. Rest of flight and communication ok. WX difficulties and very busy miami radio made long (10-15 min) delay in realizing no transmitting capability. Should we have done more holding patterns until called by miami radio? Should we have put in at bimini? Fuse blown and hand microphone replaced: intercom system replaced.
