Narrative:
Obtained clearance while on the ground at destin, fl, airport. Clearance was: destin-caf-mgm, maintain 2000, expect 5000, remain on the ground at destin, contact departure 132.1 for release, squawk XXXX. After readback of the above clearance, I announced departing runway 14 on unicom, forgetting to contact eglin on 132.1 for release unintentionally. Out of 600 ft turning downwind, heading 360 degree, contacted eglin on 132.1, he asked why I departed. I stated I had my clearance and was cleared as filed. At this time I realized I screwed up. Departure had me turn right to a 240 degree heading, and the flight proceeded uneventfully to montgomery. What's crazy is that I've flown into/out of destin for 14 yrs, was a controller at eglin for 4 hours, and am very familiar with this procedure. I just had a mental lapse I guess. Corrective action: know the procedure and comply with it. Write it down if necessary.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF SMA HAD DEP RESTRICTION BUT FORGOT AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT HIS ENRTE CLRNC OR DEP CLRNC.
Narrative: OBTAINED CLRNC WHILE ON THE GND AT DESTIN, FL, ARPT. CLRNC WAS: DESTIN-CAF-MGM, MAINTAIN 2000, EXPECT 5000, REMAIN ON THE GND AT DESTIN, CONTACT DEP 132.1 FOR RELEASE, SQUAWK XXXX. AFTER READBACK OF THE ABOVE CLRNC, I ANNOUNCED DEPARTING RWY 14 ON UNICOM, FORGETTING TO CONTACT EGLIN ON 132.1 FOR RELEASE UNINTENTIONALLY. OUT OF 600 FT TURNING DOWNWIND, HDG 360 DEG, CONTACTED EGLIN ON 132.1, HE ASKED WHY I DEPARTED. I STATED I HAD MY CLRNC AND WAS CLRED AS FILED. AT THIS TIME I REALIZED I SCREWED UP. DEP HAD ME TURN R TO A 240 DEG HDG, AND THE FLT PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY TO MONTGOMERY. WHAT'S CRAZY IS THAT I'VE FLOWN INTO/OUT OF DESTIN FOR 14 YRS, WAS A CTLR AT EGLIN FOR 4 HRS, AND AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROC. I JUST HAD A MENTAL LAPSE I GUESS. CORRECTIVE ACTION: KNOW THE PROC AND COMPLY WITH IT. WRITE IT DOWN IF NECESSARY.
