Narrative:

When I arrived at the field, myf was using runways 10L and 10R. During the preflight the tower switched to the single runway 23, overloading the system. I had never used runway 23, and confessed my ignorance to get there by asking for 'progressive taxi instructions.' I did have the airport layout in front of me. The ground control operator, being very busy gave me the full taxi instructions to get to runway 23 all at once, rather the piece meal. Most airports will baby from intersection to intersection. All I could remember was that I could taxi onto taxiway 'C', and that I was cleared to taxi, and use, either runways 28L or 28R to reach runway 23. Taxiing onto taxiway 'C', I decided to turn off on taxiway 'a', and crossed the far end of runway 23, to reach 28R or 28L. To from there reach runway 23, taxiing on 28R or 28L. Having crossed the far end of runway 23, the tower stopped me on taxiway 'a', on the other side of runway 23. Human performance considerations: ground control was very busy. Normal towers give 'progressive' instructions: 'straight ahead, turn right at next intersection,' etc. Having confessed my ignorance to get to runway 23, by asking for 'progressive' instructions, I believed to be under tower control. As in IFR vectoring. The clearance to taxi onto either runway 29L or 28R confused me. Use and abuse them as you see fit. My interpretation. I believed being under tower control, stopping me from making the wrong moves and turns. But the tower was probably very busy, to note the wrong turn. I took the bar on the commercial airport layout as the displaced threshold for runway 5. Making it part of taxiway 'a'. From where I was, I could not see 28L, 28R, or 23 geometrically. Believing I could, or was allowed to, get to 28L or 28R, using them as taxiways.

Title: GA SMA RWY TRANSGRESS UNAUTH RWY XING.

Narrative: WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE FIELD, MYF WAS USING RWYS 10L AND 10R. DURING THE PREFLT THE TWR SWITCHED TO THE SINGLE RWY 23, OVERLOADING THE SYS. I HAD NEVER USED RWY 23, AND CONFESSED MY IGNORANCE TO GET THERE BY ASKING FOR 'PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS.' I DID HAVE THE ARPT LAYOUT IN FRONT OF ME. THE GND CTL OPERATOR, BEING VERY BUSY GAVE ME THE FULL TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO GET TO RWY 23 ALL AT ONCE, RATHER THE PIECE MEAL. MOST ARPTS WILL BABY FROM INTXN TO INTXN. ALL I COULD REMEMBER WAS THAT I COULD TAXI ONTO TAXIWAY 'C', AND THAT I WAS CLRED TO TAXI, AND USE, EITHER RWYS 28L OR 28R TO REACH RWY 23. TAXIING ONTO TAXIWAY 'C', I DECIDED TO TURN OFF ON TAXIWAY 'A', AND CROSSED THE FAR END OF RWY 23, TO REACH 28R OR 28L. TO FROM THERE REACH RWY 23, TAXIING ON 28R OR 28L. HAVING CROSSED THE FAR END OF RWY 23, THE TWR STOPPED ME ON TAXIWAY 'A', ON THE OTHER SIDE OF RWY 23. HUMAN PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: GND CTL WAS VERY BUSY. NORMAL TWRS GIVE 'PROGRESSIVE' INSTRUCTIONS: 'STRAIGHT AHEAD, TURN R AT NEXT INTXN,' ETC. HAVING CONFESSED MY IGNORANCE TO GET TO RWY 23, BY ASKING FOR 'PROGRESSIVE' INSTRUCTIONS, I BELIEVED TO BE UNDER TWR CTL. AS IN IFR VECTORING. THE CLRNC TO TAXI ONTO EITHER RWY 29L OR 28R CONFUSED ME. USE AND ABUSE THEM AS YOU SEE FIT. MY INTERPRETATION. I BELIEVED BEING UNDER TWR CTL, STOPPING ME FROM MAKING THE WRONG MOVES AND TURNS. BUT THE TWR WAS PROBABLY VERY BUSY, TO NOTE THE WRONG TURN. I TOOK THE BAR ON THE COMMERCIAL ARPT LAYOUT AS THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD FOR RWY 5. MAKING IT PART OF TAXIWAY 'A'. FROM WHERE I WAS, I COULD NOT SEE 28L, 28R, OR 23 GEOMETRICALLY. BELIEVING I COULD, OR WAS ALLOWED TO, GET TO 28L OR 28R, USING THEM AS TAXIWAYS.
