Narrative:
Low voltage indicator on, followed engine grounding/roughness noise followed by propeller runaway (overspd). I throttled back to control propeller speed. All gauges indicated normal (cylinder head, oil pressure, oil temperature = green). Moments later, engine began to crank intermittent and throttle/mixture had no effect. With power plant loss imminent, I shut engine down and proceeded to elm. Safe landing. Mechanic examined engine. It was seized. Metal shavings found in oil. FAA inspector to 'tag' engine for post mortem. Note: I learned later that this plane was svced for metal in oil previously.
