Narrative:
Aircraft was on base leg (radar vector to final at hnl). We were given a heading of 330 degrees. The PF has been into hnl numerous times, a part of his duties with airlines. Instead of holding the 330 degree assigned heading, he started to turn to line up on final for 8L. We were being vectored over the water at that time and I didn't realize he hadn't rolled out on the 330 degree heading until he had passed 060 degree heading. He remarked hnl usually gave 1 turn to final and he was surprised that our clearance wasn't really for turn to final. On realizing our error, we informed hnl approach that we had rolled out on final and had the airport in sight. That's when we realized we had only been given a base turn, not the 1 turn to final we had expected.

Title: FO FLYING MLT ON APCH TO HNL STARTED TURN INTO ALIGNMENT WITH RWY 8L BEFORE CLRED BY APCH CTL.
Narrative: ACFT WAS ON BASE LEG (RADAR VECTOR TO FINAL AT HNL). WE WERE GIVEN A HDG OF 330 DEGS. THE PF HAS BEEN INTO HNL NUMEROUS TIMES, A PART OF HIS DUTIES WITH AIRLINES. INSTEAD OF HOLDING THE 330 DEG ASSIGNED HDG, HE STARTED TO TURN TO LINE UP ON FINAL FOR 8L. WE WERE BEING VECTORED OVER THE WATER AT THAT TIME AND I DIDN'T REALIZE HE HADN'T ROLLED OUT ON THE 330 DEG HDG UNTIL HE HAD PASSED 060 DEG HDG. HE REMARKED HNL USUALLY GAVE 1 TURN TO FINAL AND HE WAS SURPRISED THAT OUR CLRNC WASN'T REALLY FOR TURN TO FINAL. ON REALIZING OUR ERROR, WE INFORMED HNL APCH THAT WE HAD ROLLED OUT ON FINAL AND HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT. THAT'S WHEN WE REALIZED WE HAD ONLY BEEN GIVEN A BASE TURN, NOT THE 1 TURN TO FINAL WE HAD EXPECTED.
