Narrative:
While flying on an IFR flight plan, my 2 radios stopped operating. I informed approach control and requested a heading to leave the area and return to my departure point. After taking the new heading I reached for a sectional chart. While pulling out my VFR sectional chart, I dropped my hand held radio. While picking up the hand held radio, I lost some altitude. I regained the altitude and approach control gave me vectors to my departure point. After landing, I had the electrical system repaired and the voltage light replaced.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, MY 2 RADIOS STOPPED OPERATING. I INFORMED APCH CTL AND REQUESTED A HDG TO LEAVE THE AREA AND RETURN TO MY DEP POINT. AFTER TAKING THE NEW HDG I REACHED FOR A SECTIONAL CHART. WHILE PULLING OUT MY VFR SECTIONAL CHART, I DROPPED MY HAND HELD RADIO. WHILE PICKING UP THE HAND HELD RADIO, I LOST SOME ALT. I REGAINED THE ALT AND APCH CTL GAVE ME VECTORS TO MY DEP POINT. AFTER LNDG, I HAD THE ELECTRICAL SYS REPAIRED AND THE VOLTAGE LIGHT REPLACED.
