Narrative:

I am employed as a captain for a regional airline that operates under both far 121 and 135. During 1991 a cvr system was installed in the far 135 aircraft which I operate. Perceiving the use of this system to be nonregulatory in nature, I have been in the habit of disabling the cvr before flight. This action is unobservable by the first officer. I have since discovered that my actions could be a violation of FARS and have discontinued such practice. I had received little or no training on this matter.
