Narrative:
Flight planning and FSS briefing normal, en route normal 10 mi out, attempted contact on unicom 122.95 per sectional chart frequency. No response although I could hear other 'chatter' on 122.95. I missed seeing the control tower 120.3 on the chart. My first trip to sanford and didn't think too much about not getting a TA response. Called again on final, no answer. I landed and taxied to parking. After parking I checked the chart and airport directory and attempted contact on the CTAF frequency and they gave me a ground control frequency. I asked if they monitored the 122.95. They said they did not. First of all, I should have checked the chart more closely and seen the control tower frequency and then checked the directory for full information. The tower is not a 24 hour tower but was operational at the time of my arrival. I did see 1 other light aircraft moving on the airport and should have suspected my error when I did not hear any communication on the unicom frequency. Suggest towers have a unicom frequency to monitor when they are a published frequency at that airport.

Title: SMA PLT USES UNICOM FREQ FOR COM WHEN TWR OPERATING. LAND WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: FLT PLANNING AND FSS BRIEFING NORMAL, ENRTE NORMAL 10 MI OUT, ATTEMPTED CONTACT ON UNICOM 122.95 PER SECTIONAL CHART FREQ. NO RESPONSE ALTHOUGH I COULD HEAR OTHER 'CHATTER' ON 122.95. I MISSED SEEING THE CTL TWR 120.3 ON THE CHART. MY FIRST TRIP TO SANFORD AND DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT NOT GETTING A TA RESPONSE. CALLED AGAIN ON FINAL, NO ANSWER. I LANDED AND TAXIED TO PARKING. AFTER PARKING I CHKED THE CHART AND ARPT DIRECTORY AND ATTEMPTED CONTACT ON THE CTAF FREQ AND THEY GAVE ME A GND CTL FREQ. I ASKED IF THEY MONITORED THE 122.95. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT. FIRST OF ALL, I SHOULD HAVE CHKED THE CHART MORE CLOSELY AND SEEN THE CTL TWR FREQ AND THEN CHKED THE DIRECTORY FOR FULL INFO. THE TWR IS NOT A 24 HR TWR BUT WAS OPERATIONAL AT THE TIME OF MY ARR. I DID SEE 1 OTHER LIGHT ACFT MOVING ON THE ARPT AND SHOULD HAVE SUSPECTED MY ERROR WHEN I DID NOT HEAR ANY COM ON THE UNICOM FREQ. SUGGEST TWRS HAVE A UNICOM FREQ TO MONITOR WHEN THEY ARE A PUBLISHED FREQ AT THAT ARPT.
