Narrative:
After receiving my VFR clearance to mgj, montgomery, ny, from clearance delivery, I went to ground frequency and was cleared to taxi to runway 10. I taxied out of the ramp area and across one taxiway thinking that I had to make a left hand turn onto a second parallel taxiway. I stopped and made an immediate 180 degree turn when I realized that there was not a second parallel taxiway and I had inadvertently entered the runway environment. I immediately informed ground control of the mistake and they said it was not a problem and gave me taxi instructions to runway 10. I apologized again and taxied to the runup area for runway 10. After completing my runup and upon contacting the tower, I was given a telephone number (syracuse approach) as soon as I landed at mgj and was told, much to my surprise, that there would be action taken regarding this inadvertent mistake.

Title: SMA TAXIES ONTO RWY, DOES AN IMMEDIATE 180 AND NOTIFIES TWR.
Narrative: AFTER RECEIVING MY VFR CLRNC TO MGJ, MONTGOMERY, NY, FROM CLRNC DELIVERY, I WENT TO GND FREQ AND WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 10. I TAXIED OUT OF THE RAMP AREA AND ACROSS ONE TAXIWAY THINKING THAT I HAD TO MAKE A L HAND TURN ONTO A SECOND PARALLEL TAXIWAY. I STOPPED AND MADE AN IMMEDIATE 180 DEG TURN WHEN I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS NOT A SECOND PARALLEL TAXIWAY AND I HAD INADVERTENTLY ENTERED THE RWY ENVIRONMENT. I IMMEDIATELY INFORMED GND CTL OF THE MISTAKE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM AND GAVE ME TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO RWY 10. I APOLOGIZED AGAIN AND TAXIED TO THE RUNUP AREA FOR RWY 10. AFTER COMPLETING MY RUNUP AND UPON CONTACTING THE TWR, I WAS GIVEN A TELEPHONE NUMBER (SYRACUSE APCH) AS SOON AS I LANDED AT MGJ AND WAS TOLD, MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THAT THERE WOULD BE ACTION TAKEN REGARDING THIS INADVERTENT MISTAKE.
