Narrative:
I was planning a flight from aeronautical country airport in mckinneg, tx (TX05) to spinks airport (fws) in fort worth, tx. I called fort worth FSS for a WX briefing and a check of NOTAMS. The WX was reported to be VFR and the only NOTAM was that runway 17/35 at fws was to be closed at XA00Z for about 2 hours. Since this would interfere with my arrival time I decided to call the fws airport and get an update on just when they expected to reopen the runway. I spoke with a woman who stated that the runway was to be closed from XB00 am to XC30 pm local time. I therefore planned my trip to arrive at fws around XC45 pm local time. As I was nearing fws I tried to reach someone on unicom to verify that the runway was indeed open. After my third attempt, someone answered that the tower frequency at fws was now 128.55 and that I should have checked my NOTAMS. At that time, I was using a current VFR sectional chart that failed to indicate that fws was a controled airport or that the frequency was indeed 128.55. I changed to the tower frequency and advised the tower I was approximately 2 1/2 mi northeast inbound landing. The tower told me to report a left base, which I did, and then cleared me for landing. There was no further communications as I switched to ground control and proceeded to parking. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states there has been no follow up on this situation. His perception from tower communication was that he was not the first to make this mistake. Just very discouraged with NOTAM not being given to him when specifically requested.

Title: SMA PLT IS NOT GIVEN NOTAM DURING BRIEFING. UNAWARE OF TWR OPERATION. ENTERS ATA PRIOR TO COM.
Narrative: I WAS PLANNING A FLT FROM AERO COUNTRY ARPT IN MCKINNEG, TX (TX05) TO SPINKS ARPT (FWS) IN FORT WORTH, TX. I CALLED FORT WORTH FSS FOR A WX BRIEFING AND A CHK OF NOTAMS. THE WX WAS RPTED TO BE VFR AND THE ONLY NOTAM WAS THAT RWY 17/35 AT FWS WAS TO BE CLOSED AT XA00Z FOR ABOUT 2 HRS. SINCE THIS WOULD INTERFERE WITH MY ARR TIME I DECIDED TO CALL THE FWS ARPT AND GET AN UPDATE ON JUST WHEN THEY EXPECTED TO REOPEN THE RWY. I SPOKE WITH A WOMAN WHO STATED THAT THE RWY WAS TO BE CLOSED FROM XB00 AM TO XC30 PM LCL TIME. I THEREFORE PLANNED MY TRIP TO ARRIVE AT FWS AROUND XC45 PM LCL TIME. AS I WAS NEARING FWS I TRIED TO REACH SOMEONE ON UNICOM TO VERIFY THAT THE RWY WAS INDEED OPEN. AFTER MY THIRD ATTEMPT, SOMEONE ANSWERED THAT THE TWR FREQ AT FWS WAS NOW 128.55 AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE CHKED MY NOTAMS. AT THAT TIME, I WAS USING A CURRENT VFR SECTIONAL CHART THAT FAILED TO INDICATE THAT FWS WAS A CTLED ARPT OR THAT THE FREQ WAS INDEED 128.55. I CHANGED TO THE TWR FREQ AND ADVISED THE TWR I WAS APPROX 2 1/2 MI NE INBOUND LNDG. THE TWR TOLD ME TO RPT A L BASE, WHICH I DID, AND THEN CLRED ME FOR LNDG. THERE WAS NO FURTHER COMS AS I SWITCHED TO GND CTL AND PROCEEDED TO PARKING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THERE HAS BEEN NO FOLLOW UP ON THIS SITUATION. HIS PERCEPTION FROM TWR COM WAS THAT HE WAS NOT THE FIRST TO MAKE THIS MISTAKE. JUST VERY DISCOURAGED WITH NOTAM NOT BEING GIVEN TO HIM WHEN SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED.
