Narrative:
After another aircraft landed we were cleared into position and hold. As we came around in position, we were cleared for takeoff. I looked up, the other aircraft had cleared the runway and was moving. The other aircraft was against a dark backgnd of buildup. I looked down to set power and call 80 K. I looked up, our aircraft was on centerline then I saw that the other aircraft had stopped. His tail had been obscured by the dark buildup. His tail was dark and it was dawn. He was just clear of the runway. At the time I saw he was stopped we were approaching V1. While we weren't in danger of hitting him he was close enough to give the first officer, who was flying, a start so that he swerved a little. The other aircraft was a heavy transport. We need to be reminded when we clear a runway to clear all the way.

Narrative: AFTER ANOTHER ACFT LANDED WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. AS WE CAME AROUND IN POS, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I LOOKED UP, THE OTHER ACFT HAD CLRED THE RWY AND WAS MOVING. THE OTHER ACFT WAS AGAINST A DARK BACKGND OF BUILDUP. I LOOKED DOWN TO SET PWR AND CALL 80 K. I LOOKED UP, OUR ACFT WAS ON CENTERLINE THEN I SAW THAT THE OTHER ACFT HAD STOPPED. HIS TAIL HAD BEEN OBSCURED BY THE DARK BUILDUP. HIS TAIL WAS DARK AND IT WAS DAWN. HE WAS JUST CLR OF THE RWY. AT THE TIME I SAW HE WAS STOPPED WE WERE APCHING V1. WHILE WE WEREN'T IN DANGER OF HITTING HIM HE WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO GIVE THE FO, WHO WAS FLYING, A START SO THAT HE SWERVED A LITTLE. THE OTHER ACFT WAS A HVT. WE NEED TO BE REMINDED WHEN WE CLR A RWY TO CLR ALL THE WAY.
