Narrative:
Approaching 26R at stapleton on visual approach, denver approach issued winds at (approximately) 140 degrees at 13 KTS. I advised captain (PF) 'this is not legal' (company maximum tailwind is 10 KTS). He continued approach. Switched to tower frequency, coincidentally, a company large transport was in discussion with tower about winds. Tower stated winds were (approximately) 130/11 KTS. (Large transport goes around). Again, I mentioned to captain 'this is illegal situation -- maximum wind (tail) by company regulations is 10 KTS.' he continued approach. By now, we are passing approximately 700 ft. Again, tower issued winds -- (approximately) 130/12 KTS. Again, I say 'this is not a legal landing.' I am now reluctant to take control due to altitude. We land on 26R. Next 2 aircraft in sequence (one company, one commuter) go around. We taxi to gate. By the time we exit aircraft, stapleton changes landing runway to 8's. Prior to exiting I again strongly mention illegal situation to captain -- no comment from him.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR MAKES MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING AS THE RPTED TAILWIND WAS LEGAL. FLC COORD LACKING IN APCH LNDG PROC DOWNWIND LNDG.
Narrative: APCHING 26R AT STAPLETON ON VISUAL APCH, DENVER APCH ISSUED WINDS AT (APPROX) 140 DEGS AT 13 KTS. I ADVISED CAPT (PF) 'THIS IS NOT LEGAL' (COMPANY MAX TAILWIND IS 10 KTS). HE CONTINUED APCH. SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ, COINCIDENTALLY, A COMPANY LGT WAS IN DISCUSSION WITH TWR ABOUT WINDS. TWR STATED WINDS WERE (APPROX) 130/11 KTS. (LGT GOES AROUND). AGAIN, I MENTIONED TO CAPT 'THIS IS ILLEGAL SITUATION -- MAX WIND (TAIL) BY COMPANY REGS IS 10 KTS.' HE CONTINUED APCH. BY NOW, WE ARE PASSING APPROX 700 FT. AGAIN, TWR ISSUED WINDS -- (APPROX) 130/12 KTS. AGAIN, I SAY 'THIS IS NOT A LEGAL LNDG.' I AM NOW RELUCTANT TO TAKE CTL DUE TO ALT. WE LAND ON 26R. NEXT 2 ACFT IN SEQUENCE (ONE COMPANY, ONE COMMUTER) GAR. WE TAXI TO GATE. BY THE TIME WE EXIT ACFT, STAPLETON CHANGES LNDG RWY TO 8'S. PRIOR TO EXITING I AGAIN STRONGLY MENTION ILLEGAL SITUATION TO CAPT -- NO COMMENT FROM HIM.
