Narrative:
On ILS approach to runway 05 at norfolk, va we received a GPWS warning for 'gear' at about 4000 ft AGL. The gear indicator panel showed '3 green' down and locked. We went missed approach. Returned for a second approach, confirmed '3 green' on gear indicator panel as we had before. Got another gear warning from GPWS at 400 ft AGL. Missed approach again. Went out on extended vectors, put the gear down, got '3 green' on gear position indicator and visually confirmed that gear was down and locked. (Mdt is high wing airplane, you can see mains from the cabin and flight deck has a sight glass for the nose gear). Returned to norfolk and made a normal approach and landing. I don't know if you are tracking false GPWS warnings, but if you have any statistics, I would like to see them. This system has given me enough false indications over the last 5 yrs, that I am suspect of its value to me or the flight deck.

Title: EVASIVE ACTION MISSED APCH EXECUTED AS GPWS ALERTS CREW TO A POTENTIAL GEAR PROBLEM DURING A LOW VIS APCH AT NIGHT.
Narrative: ON ILS APCH TO RWY 05 AT NORFOLK, VA WE RECEIVED A GPWS WARNING FOR 'GEAR' AT ABOUT 4000 FT AGL. THE GEAR INDICATOR PANEL SHOWED '3 GREEN' DOWN AND LOCKED. WE WENT MISSED APCH. RETURNED FOR A SECOND APCH, CONFIRMED '3 GREEN' ON GEAR INDICATOR PANEL AS WE HAD BEFORE. GOT ANOTHER GEAR WARNING FROM GPWS AT 400 FT AGL. MISSED APCH AGAIN. WENT OUT ON EXTENDED VECTORS, PUT THE GEAR DOWN, GOT '3 GREEN' ON GEAR POS INDICATOR AND VISUALLY CONFIRMED THAT GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. (MDT IS HIGH WING AIRPLANE, YOU CAN SEE MAINS FROM THE CABIN AND FLT DECK HAS A SIGHT GLASS FOR THE NOSE GEAR). RETURNED TO NORFOLK AND MADE A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ARE TRACKING FALSE GPWS WARNINGS, BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY STATISTICS, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. THIS SYS HAS GIVEN ME ENOUGH FALSE INDICATIONS OVER THE LAST 5 YRS, THAT I AM SUSPECT OF ITS VALUE TO ME OR THE FLT DECK.
